I had a pretty sweet blog on Xanga in my teens between 2003 – 2008.
Nah, it was a pretty shit blog. I remember that I’d randomly change the whole skin of my blog page to make myself out to be a super “AZN” fan boy. Like, I’d have a tiled background of Jay Chou or something, just so I could appeal to the Asian crowd that used to hang out near my group in high school. I’d even add the odd ^_^” and (>’.’)>.
If it were to win any awards they would’ve mostly revolved around endurance, most blog writers I know who set out to make a difference last for about a year. With that logic I think the key to blog longevity is to aim to make no difference.
Anyway, a decade later and now I’m a midweight graphic designer and a working musician based in Sydney. I currently write, produce and play for two bands, Polar Knights & Cull and I design for Fuzzy Events (Parklife, Field Day).
Late last year (2012) my grandma passed away and this had a profound impact on me. Keeping ultra busy was the only way I could deal with it. This was around the same time I started my 2nd musical project, Cull. Eventually everything started to catch up with me when my contracts that kept me busy were coming to a close. Fearing that I’d indulge in a phase of sickly songwriting regarding my impending wave of post-loss depression I booked a badge and flight to SXSW in Austin alone. I figured if I displaced myself from where I currently live and write then maybe something neat would come out of writing over there. If it doesn’t I’m out an odd 7k. I’ll be going around the U.S.A for a month and a bit on some semi-directionless quest for direction. I’ll go into detail about my itinerary or something later.
Anyhow I don’t know who will read this but maybe if you’re into schadenfreude, obsessed with guitar pedals, a songsmith, savvy with Logic Pro (I’m certainly not), or want to know whether I still have a pulse then this might be for you. I leave this Saturday (9 Mar).
I dunno, let’s see what happens mang.
